Tharptown falls to Lynn

HANCEVILLE — The 2012 basketball playoffs ended for Tharptown Tuesday night, as the Lady Wildcats were topped by the Lynn Lady Bears 44-25 at Wallace State.

Lynn had taken a 12-2 lead by the end of the first, and Tharptown was unable to make a comeback throughout the match.

“We’ve come leaps and bounds as a program,” Tharptown head coach Chad Green said.

“We won our first area tournament and sub-region match, and this was our first trip to Hanceville.”

The Lady Wildcats matched Lynn with 12 points scored in the second quarter, but unfortunately that would not cut into the Lady Bears’ lead.

The teams combined for only eight points in the third quarter, and Lynn extended its lead to 19 by the end of the fourth to pick up the win.

“We were a nervous wreck in the first quarter,” Green said. “We had to overcome the nerves, and [Lynn] does a great job.”

Sophomore Kamri Sears echoed what Coach Green said about the game.

“I was pretty nervous,” she said.

Despite the nerves, Sears had a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. She was the leading scorer for Tharptown.

The only other two Lady Wildcats to make the score sheet were Chloe Lane with eight points and Danielle Creasy with four.

Tharptown ended its 2011-2012 season with a 21-10 record.
