City plans movie night for July 3

The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department is adding a new event to the festivities surrounding the Jam on Sloss Lake for the Fourth of July celebration.

The department will be hosting “Movie in the Park,” an event where local youngsters from area church youth programs, as well as their parents and any other adults who wish to join in, will be able to have some good old-fashioned fellowship and fun.

“We wanted to expand on the fireworks show,” said Russellville Parks and Recreation Department superintendent Chad Sears.

“I know that will be on a Wednesday night, so we want to get some of the local youth ministries a chance to get out, fellowship with one another and have fun for all adults and children. We will have inflatables set up, games and activities set up for the kids also.”

The event will take place at John Blackwell ballpark (Lee Complex) on Alabama 24 in Russellville. The fun and games start at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at 8 p.m.

“We are going to put it on the big field at the Lee Complex, so people who attend could bring a blanket to sit on or maybe a lawn chair, anything they can be comfortable with. They can even sit on the grass if they want to,” Sears said.

The movie, which is yet to be determined, will be a G-rated movie, and according to Sears, it will likely be an animated movie.

The event is free and is open to all who wish to attend. For more information call the Russellville Parks and Recreation Department at 256-332-8770.

“Just come out and have fun,” Sears said.
