Stancil seeking office of revenue commissioner

Veronica Copeland Stancil has announced her candidacy for the position of Revenue Commissioner in Franklin County as a Republican candidate.

Stancil is a graduate of Phil Campbell High School and Northwest Shoals Community College.

Following her graduation from NWSCC, Stancil began what has become 24.5 years of employment in the Franklin County Courthouse.

Stancil worked in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office for 7.5 years before leaving to take a job in the Circuit Clerk’s Office where she currently works as the bookkeeper.

She has been married to John Stancil for 16 years, and they have two sons: Justus, 11, and Jonah, 6.

The Stancils are members of Bethel Baptist Church where Stancil’s husband is the pastor.

Her parents are Lowell and Bobbie Nell Copeland, and she has two brothers Jeff Copeland and wife, Valerie; and Marvin Copeland and wife, Tina.

Stancil said she made the decision to run based on her desire to help the people of Franklin County.

“My decision to run for the office of Revenue Commissioner has been made after much consideration and prayer,” Stancil said.

“I feel my seven and a half years of experience working in the Revenue Commissioner’s Office will be beneficial.

“I also realize there will be things to learn. I will work with the current staff to gain the knowledge I need to fill in for any employee when necessary. If elected, I will be the dedicated, hard-working revenue commissioner the citizens of Franklin County deserve.

“I am excited about the chance to meet people during this campaign season. I ask for your prayers and support now and, of course, your vote in the Republican primary on June 3, 2014.”
