Stancil named new revenue commissioner

After securing a decisive victory in the June primaries, Veronica Stancil once again emerged victorious after Tuesday’s general election results came in for Franklin County Revenue Commissioner.

Stancil defeated her Democratic opponent Don Garrard 4,337 votes to 3,312 votes.

This was the first time for Stancil to run for office and she said she enjoyed the experience and meeting people across the county, and she is looking forward to serving these people as their next revenue commissioner.

“I just want to thank everyone for their support over the past nine months and those who voted for me,” Stancil said.

“I also want to thank Don [Garrard] for the good, clean race. It takes off so much stress when you run against a good opponent and don’t have to worry about the mud-slinging.

“It has been a long nine months of campaigning, but I’ve met some wonderful people through this process, and I’m ready to get started working for the people of Franklin County.”

Stancil will officially take over as revenue commissioner on October 1, 2015.

Stancil previously served in the revenue commissioner’s office from 1989 to 1996 and then transferred to the circuit clerk’s office where she will continue to be employed until next October.

Stancil said her 25 years working in public service will help her in this new position.

“I have in-office experience, and my willingness and availability to learn and apply all this knowledge will be a valuable asset for the citizens of Franklin County,” she said.

Stancil also said she planned to work alongside the employees in the revenue commissioner’s office to provide the best service possible.

“I will examine office procedures, employees and make any changes necessary for improvements,” she said.

“Hardworking and friendly service is what you will receive from me as well as the employees. I will be available to the public and this office will be open to anyone to discuss problems or concerns that anyone may have. Everyone will be treated fairly.”
