Bags of Hope event to be held
A local ministry group is hoping to spread the message of the true meaning of Christmas this holiday season with an outreach event they hope other local people will get in on.
Lives Being Restored Ministry, which is based out of Russellville, will be hosting “Bags of Hope,” on Dec. 14 at the A.W. Todd Centre in Russellville.
The purpose of the Bags of Hope event is to fill up bags that will be taken to the biggest homeless shelter in Nashville, Tenn.
According to Shea Childers Lowery, every year close to Christmas ladies travel from all over North Alabama and Mississippi to the shelter where they minister to more than 200 homeless ladies at an event called Christmas in Nashville.
“We bring a women’s retreat to the homeless ladies, then distribute Bags of Hope to every lady there,” she said.
“We also have a team of ladies who bring gifts for the children and minister to them as well.”
Lowery said the bags are filled with scarves, toboggans, gloves and other items, but the reason the event is called “Bags of Hope” isn’t because of these items inside the bag.
“Each bag will contain a Bible,” Lowery said. “God’s Word is where our hope comes from, so that’s where the name comes from.”
Lowery will be speaking at the Bags of Hope event on Dec. 14 on the topic of “The Importance of Sharing Your Story.” Her daughter, Mandy, will bring special music and former Franklin County resident and executive editor of the Alabama Baptist Jennifer Rash will be the emcee for the event. Refreshments will also be served.
Lowery said the Bags of Hope event is free but she said each lady attending the event is asked to bring a scarf, toboggan and a pair of gloves that will go into the Bags of Hope for the homeless women in Nashville.
For those wanting to participate, Bags of Hope, a mission outreach of Lives Being Restored Ministry, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the A.W. Todd Centre in Russellville.
