County women ‘go red’ for heart health
Women – and a few men, as well – packed the A.W. Todd Centre last week for a special luncheon for heart disease awareness.
The Foster Grandparent Program of Russellville and the Franklin County Cooperative Extension System hosted the Go Red for Women Luncheon Feb. 4 with guest speaker Dr. Jeffery Chenyi of Chenyi Family Medicine in Russellville.
Go Red for Women is an initiative of the American Heart Association, and it helps bring to light the symptoms, risk factors and warning signs associated with heart disease in women.
“I would hope all of us would learn to take better care and be more aware of our health,” said Shirley Rambo, one of the attendees.
“One thing that surprised me is that women don’t feel pain like a man does (when it comes to heart problems),” said Linda Smith, another attendee to the luncheon.
Women were encouraged to wear red to the event, and each attendee received a packet of information about heart disease, blood pressure, cholesterol and other related health topics.
