Local figures speak at career day
Phil Campbell Elementary School students recently had the chance to learn about a variety of careers during their annual Career Day.
According to school counselor Laura Voyles, third-grade through sixth-grade students had medical, military, industrial, agricultural, financial and law enforcement visitors all morning. Some visiting speakers were parents of the children. They all represented different vocations in the community that children could one day pursue as careers.
“We tried to get a variety so the students could see all that is available to them,” Voyles said.
Students also had the chance to take personality quizzes to see what future careers would best suit their personalities.
“The students look forward to it every year, especially if their parents come to speak,” Voyles said.
While PCES’ older students learned from guest speakers, Voyles said kindergarten through second-graders learned simultaneously what a career is and why it’s important.
