Belgreen JV volleyball finishes season undefeated
The Belgreen Bulldog junior varsity volleyball team finished the season undefeated for the second consecutive year.
Varsity head coach Teresa Whitten started the junior varsity program in 2012 when she became the varsity coach.
“If we were ever going to have a chance to compete beyond our area, we needed to build the program from the ground up, and that starts in junior high,” said Whitten. “We had four returning starters on this team, so experience was on our side.”
Bailey Oliver was the team captain and leader. She was the most consistent server, passer and hitter on the team, Whitten said. “Bailey kept the girls in line with her great attitude and enthusiasm.”
Oliver led the team with 66 kills and 58 digs. She also led with 46 service points and 23 aces.
Kelsey Wilson had 70 assists and led the team with 47 aces and 20 service points.
Kaley Chandler was second in hitting with 50 kills on the season.
“To go undefeated is a great achievement,” said Whitten. “To go undefeated two straight years is outstanding. The ones who will move up to varsity are leaving high expectations for the teams to follow.”
This years starters were Oliver, Wilson, Makayla Lane, Chandler, Noelle Willingham (co-captain) and Nora Castillo.
