Phil Campbell girls get revenge win over Phillips

Abby Davis and Kallie Allen combined for 45 points to lead the fifth-ranked Phil Campbell Bobcats (3A) past the fourth-ranked Phillips Bears (1A) 77-73, avenging a loss to the Bears earlier in the year.

Phil Campbell dominated the first quarter, outscoring Phillips 24-14 and getting six points each from Davis, Allen, Caitlynn Mills and Katie Thomas. Phillips started chipping away at Phil Campbell’s lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 16-12. Phillips continued that comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 23-15 to claim a 53-51 lead.

Both teams lit up the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, with Phil Campbell outscoring Phillips 26-20 to get the win.

Davis led Phil Campbell with 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Allen added 21 points for the Bobcats. Katie Thomas scored 16 points and Caitlynn Mills 11 points. Kenner Scott and Olivia Taylor rounded out the scoring with three points and two points, respectively.

Phil Campbell 61, Tharptown 36

Phil Campbell’s lone senior girl basketball player, Davis, had a dominant performance on Senior Night, scoring 29 points in three quarter to lead the Bobcats past the Tharptown Wildcats 61-36.

Phil Campbell led by three points at the end of the first quarter, 12-9. The Bobcats stepped up the defensive pressure in the second quarter to outscore the Wildcats 20-9 and extend their lead to 32-18. Phil Campbell put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Tharptown 20-6 to take a 52-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

Allen followed Davis with 13 points. Katie Thomas added seven points, Olivia Taylor six points, Kaci Harris three points and Jade Harbin one point.

Gracie Montgomery led Tharptown with 13 points. She was followed by Catie Dawson with seven points, Brooke Daily four points, Shaylee Wieting four points, Adrianna Borden four points, Aly Vandiver three points and Jaiden Gaston two points.
