Lady Golden Tigers improve record with four wins

Pisgah 14, Russellville 2

The TimesDaily Classic got underway March 15 at Deshler High School, and the Lady Golden Tigers struggled in a four-inning game against Pisgah.

RHS was outhit 10-2, and the Golden Tigers made three errors on defense. Autumn Logan had the two Russellville hits, and she scored a run. Madison Murray scored the other RHS run, and she was hit by a pitch. Karlie Moore had an RBI, and Megan Warhurst reached base on a walk for RHS.

Chalea Clemmons got the start in the pitching circle. She gave up three earned runs, as did Warhurst, who came in to finish the game.

Russellville 5, Brooks 1

Game two of Friday evening was a good one for Russellville. Seven Golden Tigers had hits, and Brooks only had four in the five-inning contest in Tuscumbia.

Alivia Clemmons, Jenna Whitfield, Autumn Logan, Murray, Chalea Clemmons, Warhurst and Lauren Rogers had the Russellville hits. The hits by Warhurst, Logan and Murray were doubles.

Warhurst pitched all five innings and got the win. She allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out 11 batters.

“We played much better in that game,” said Russellville head coach Kathryn Montgomery. “We made some changes in between games because we needed to really straighten up and figure out what our priorities are. So, we made sure to place focus on things that needed focus, and it showed in this game.”

Russellville 8, Deshler 0

The Lady Golden Tigers got a lengthy Saturday of action started with a win over Deshler as the TimesDaily Classic continued.

Krista Sikes pitched all four innings of the game and got the win. She threw 42 pitches and allowed one hit.

Meanwhile at the plate, RHS had 11 hits in the victory. Logan led the way with a 3-for-3 performance, including a double and five RBIs. Alivia Clemmons and AJ Taylor had two hits each, while Makala O’Neal, Warhurst, Katie Skidmore and Rogers had one hit apiece.

Russellville 2, Rogers 0

Game two of the day was a shutout win for Russellville in a five-inning game. Both teams had three hits, each and RHS scored both runs in the fourth frame.

Moore hit a home run and had the two Russellville RBIs. O’Neal added a double, while Warhurst had the other hit.

Warhurst also did the pitching and got the win in the circle. She threw 87 pitches and struck out nine while walking none.

Russellville 6, Wilson 5

The third game Saturday for RHS was a three-inning victory over the Lady Warriors of Wilson High School.

Russellville scored two runs in the first and four more in the second to get the win. Murray had two hits, including a double and an RBI, to lead RHS. Logan had a hit, a walk and two RBIs, while Warhurst and Moore also had singles.

Sikes and Warhurst shared the pitching duties; Sikes got the win, and Warhurst had the save.

Hayden 12, Russellville 0

Hayden was too much for Russellville in the semifinals of the TimesDaily Classic held at Mars Hill Saturday night.

Russellville (8-6) had three hits in the game, and the Golden Tigers were led by Murray, Moore and O’Neal. Murray’s hit was a triple, while O’Neal’s was a double.

Warhurst was the Russellville pitcher, and she allowed three earned runs on nine hits.
