Bicentennial Church Tour welcomes big crowd

Another leg of the Russellville Bicentennial celebration has been completed. March 22 Bicentennial Committee Chair Chris Ozbirn led a group on a church tour of the four oldest churches in Russellville.

“This has been the most awesome morning I’ve had in a long time,” Ozbirn said.

The tour started at the Church of Christ then moved on to the Presbyterian Church, followed by the First United Methodist Church before ending at the First Baptist Church.

Ozbirn said the biggest crowd was at the Methodist Church, with about 50 people. “I didn’t expect the turnout we had,” she said.

Each location shared its history and some musical entertainment. Memorabilia, such as old photographs and church bulletins, were also available for church members to peruse.

“Churches are one of the main parts of history,” Ozbirn said.

This is only one event among many planned for 2019. More information about further plans, including a tree planting in April, will be released soon.
