RHS golf season progresses with wins over Lawrence County

The Russellville High School boys’ and girls’ golf teams are on the course for the 2019 season, and they are picking up multiple wins over the competition.

The RHS boys got a win over Lawrence County March 11, led by Eric Boutwell’s score of two-under-par. The Golden Tigers followed that up with a victory over Haleyville March 12, with the top three scoring under par – Calhoun Community College signee Brayden Bendall leading the way with a three-under score.

March 19 Russellville picked up another win over the Lions, with Jaceton Murray leading the charge with a -2 score and Bendall following that closely with a -1 round.

The Robert Trent Jones course at Silver Lakes was the scene March 22-23 for a runner-up finish for the Golden Tigers. RHS scored a two-day total of 617, Eric Boutwell finishing as low medalist runner-up with a 141 over the two days, including eight birdies in one round.

Boutwell, Murray, Bendall, Carson Reeves and Lucas McNutt have all posted varsity scores for Coach Patrick Odom.

The Russellville girls have also fared well so far this season. Coach Monica Moon’s team, consisting of Josie Willis, Morgan Moon, Ashlyn DeArman and Alayna Fish, has wins in each of the first four matches this year.

March 11, RHS defeated Lawrence County 140-163. Willis had the top score with a 42, while Morgan Moon shot 45 and DeArman had a 53.

The next day, Russellville defeated Haleyville, Colbert Heights and Deshler by scoring a 137. Willis had the low round of the day with a 37 to lead the Golden Tigers.

After a win over Mars Hill March 18, Russellville took down Deshler and Haleyville the following afternoon. The RHS team shot a 151, and Morgan Moon was the team leader with a 47.
