Red Bay Garden Club hosts plant sale, bake sale

Throughout the calendar year, the Red Bay Garden Club takes on several projects to benefit the beautification of the City of Red Bay. Its biggest event of the year, the plant and bake sale, is coming up April 13.

“The yearly plant sale is the Red Bay Garden Club’s main fundraiser and has become a popular event in Red Bay since the vegetable plants and flowers are freshly grown and nurtured at Red Bay School’s Greenhouse with the help of students from Red Bay School,” said Mayor Charlene Fancher.

The Club donates a portion of the funds received from the sale to the Red Bay School Agriculture Department in return for the assistance provided by the students, Fancher said. Additionally, the projects the Club works on throughout the year consist of plantings in Heritage Park and Bay Tree Park, the downtown hanging baskets, the Hoyt Keeton Walking Trail and more.

“The members of the Red Bay Garden Club are passionate about their work throughout the year to enhance and promote beautification projects in the City of Red Bay,” said Fancher. “As mayor, I especially love the Red Bay Garden Club’s Handbook Logo this year, ‘Here We Grow!’  which defines Red Bay in so many ways.”

Plants for sale will include peppers, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, herbs, petunias, perennial flowers, lantana, hostas, sunpatiens, shrubs and ornamental grasses. Baked goods will also be for sale, including whole cakes.

The sale will start at 8:30 a.m. and continue until it is sold out. It will be held in the greenhouse at Red Bay High School, across from the new gym.
