Russellville cheerleaders prepare to pump up Golden Tigers

Camp is a traditional part of the summer for local cheer squads, and despite coronavirus restrictions and obstacles, Golden Tiger cheerleaders were still able to keep that tradition alive in 2020.

Russellville cheer camp, held last week on campus, included RCS junior high, junior varsity and varsity squads. Head Coach Stephanie Mayfield said it was very different for the varsity squad members especially this year because they normally attend Auburn University for cheer camp each summer.

The camp included learning new cheers and dances for the year, limited by extra precautions because of COVID-19 – such as cheerleaders having to wear a mask for any type of stunting. Mayfield said she also sanitized the gym every day after camp to prepare for the next day.

Varsity cheerleaders for the year are Destiny Hatton, Leah Grimes, Lauren Mae Sturdivant, Karly Tidwell, Ashlyn DeArman, Shelby Carson, Callie Palmer, Abby Peters, Lily Pounders, Sarah Morgan, Emily Gipson, Ella Burcham, Tori Tiffin, Sophie Hill, Madeline Cooper and Silvie Miller.

Junior varsity cheerleaders are Danica Graham, Keslie Allen, Caylin Pinkard, Chloe Sheffield, Kaitlin Speck, Annie Willis, Maggie Bishop, Stella Hill, Hailey Mitchell, Halle Grimes and Kinsley Palmer.

Junior high cheerleaders are Audrey Oliver, Raney Stone, Emmy Green, Dixie Dover, Caitlin McLain, Cara Elliott, Lily Cate Pace, Harlee Fisher, Gracie Kate Pinkard, Ellie Willis, Lexie Wells, Journey Cummings, Ella Colagross and Anna Kate Kennedy.
