The matchup between the No. 2 Mars Hill Panthers and No. 3 Red Bay Tigers fell flat pretty quickly Friday night, as Mars Hill overpowered the Tigers 35-8 to solidify the top spot in Class 2A, Region 8.

A game that was rightly billed as one the top matchups in the state of Alabama last week turned sour for Red Bay, as Mars Hill established dominance at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball early on.

The Panthers scored early on an impressive drive capped off with a touchdown with 8:17 to go in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.

Mars Hill added another touchdown late in the first quarter to extend that lead to 14-0. By halftime the Panthers led 21-0.

Mars Hill added two more scores in the second half to take a 35-0 lead.

The Tigers got their only score with three minutes to go in the game on a 10-yard run by Hunter King. King added a two-point conversion run.

Every yard the Tigers gained was hard-earned. They accumulated 134 yards on the ground and 162 total yards. Mars Hill, on the other hand, moved the ball with relative ease, piling up 378 total yards.

The Tigers have to regroup as they head to Leighton Friday night to play Colbert County in a game that will decide homefield advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
