Red Bay wins softball tournament

The Red Bay Tigers won the Belgreen Bash softball tournament late Saturday night, defeating the Tharptown Wildcats 8-0 in the finals.

Red Bay opened the game with a seven-run first inning capped off by a Chloe Knoblock three-run single.

Knoblock also got the win in the circle for the Tigers.

Annaliese Rogers finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Red Bay beat Colbert County, Tishomingo County and Addison to get to the finals.

The Tigers beat Colbert County 6-1, with Lila Blackburn and Sarah Eaton hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Red Bay bested Tishomingo County 5-3, with Eaton going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Red Bay beat Addison 5-4. Emma McCollister, Lila Blackburn and Georgia Inman had two hits each.

Tharptown arrived in the finals by beating Phillips and Vina.

The Wildcats beat Vina 7-6 on a two-run triple in the game’s last at-bat by Destin Martin. Taylor Cameron went 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Tharptown beat Phillips 13-0. The Wildcats got big games from several players – like Kyndall Morgan, who had a two-run home run to cap off an eight-run first inning for Tharptown. Morgan went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Cortney Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Cameron went 2-for-2 with a double, and Leslie Staggs went 3-for-3.

Belgreen failed to make the finals but beat Phillips and Meek while losing to Colbert County and Tishomingo County.

Belgreen beat Meek 6-2 with Lily Blackburn, Noelle Willingham and Hannah Borden all going 2-for-3. Blackburn had two doubles, and Willingham had three RBIs. The Bulldogs beat Phillips 7-0. Madison Vandiver, Morgan Vandiver and Emma Dempsey each went 2-for-2. Borden pitched a shutout and struck out 10 batters.
