RHS student signs for softball

When Russellville’s Emma Hubbert decided she wanted to pursue playing collegiate softball, she said she knew she would have to take the path less traveled by putting in lots of hard work. That work has paid off, as she has signed with Columbia State Community College.

Russellville head softball coach Josh Graham said it is difficult for girls to earn softball offers this late in the year, but this did not hinder Hubbert.

“She knew what she wanted to do, and she worked hard to get out there to meet and be seen by the right people,” Graham said.

Hubbert said Columbia State seemed like the perfect home for her with its successful softball program and its two-hour proximity to home.

“I’m really excited about getting to continue playing,” Hubbert said. “It means a lot to have all of my family and friends supporting me.”

Graham said Columbia State is getting a hard worker with Hubbert, who has a dedication to improving and doing her best.

Graham said during the off season he saw Hubbert work hard to improve as a player, especially focusing on her hitting.

“Seeing where she was last year with swinging to now, she has grown tremendously,” Graham said. “Last year when she was hitting, she would hit one or two off the fence. This year, she is driving them out of the ballpark. There is a lot in store for her, and I’m excited to see what all she can do.”
