Russellville softball gets win over Florence, falls to West Point, Hatton

The Russellville varsity softball team recently took on opponents from West Point, Florence and Hatton, with the Lady Golden Tigers losing two and winning one.

Area play got underway for RHS March 16 as the West Point Warriors visited Russellville. West Point picked up a 5-1 win with the help of eight hits.

Jacey Moore got the start in the pitching circle for Russellville. She went four innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Moore struck out five and walked a batter.

Paislee James followed in relief, and she pitched three innings, giving up two runs, with one being earned. James struck out one and walked none.

Jenna Whitfield, Fallin Cox, Emma Hubbert and Summer Butler all had hits for RHS. Whitfield’s hit was a double, and she also stole a base. Butler had the Russellville RBI, and Emma Campbell scored the only run.

The Lady Golden Tigers got back into the win column with a home victory over Florence March 18 by a 14-6 score.

Kailee Simpson had a big game in the circle and at the plate. The senior hit two home runs and drove in four runs with the bat. She also pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and allowing four earned runs on four hits.

Whitfield had two doubles and stolen base as part of a 4-for-5 performance, including two RBIs and three runs scored. Cox had a single, a double, three RBIs and a run, while Hubbert helped the cause with two hits, two walks and two runs scored.

Natalie Nichols added a hit, a walk, two RBIs and a run, while Maddy Green had a hit, two walks, an RBI and a run. Butler had the other Russellville RBI, and she scored twice. James added a hit, and she scored a run.

Russellville (8-10) went to Hatton March 22 and fell to the Hornets 8-4. Six errors were costly for the Lady Tigers.
