RHS track wins section

The Russellville High School boys’ track and field team went to Guntersville April 23-24 and won the AHSAA Class 5A Section 4 meet to qualify for the state competition.

Head coach Barry Reach’s RHS team finished the sectional events with 117 points to take the top spot and will now head to Gulf Shores for the state meet, scheduled for April 29 through May 1.

Russellville had several medalists in the sectional events.

Grayson Eady was first in javelin, and Brooks Scott took first place in discus. Taylor Crumpton was first in the triple jump, and Cahleese Phillips was second.

In 200 meters, Ashaad Williams was first, and Airreon “Boots” McCulloch was second.

Williams was also second in the 100 meters, and TJ King was second in the high jump.

Third-place finishers were Conner Warhurst in the high jump and Emmanuel Cooper in 400 meters.

Also qualifying for state were Tilmon Baker in javelin, Conner Warhurst in the long jump and both King and McCulloch in 100 meters.

Additionally, Jai Smith of RHS placed in the 300-meter hurdles.

In girls’ competition, Russellville’s Ella Burcham won a third-place medal in javelin.

Fourteen schools were listed as participants in the Class 5A section 4 event. Russellville was joined alphabetically by Alexandria, Ardmore, Boaz, Brewer, Douglas, East Limestone, Fairview, Guntersville, Lawrence County, Lee-Huntsville, Mae Jemison, Sardis and West Point.
