United Way of Northwest Alabama makes final request for support as campaign ends
United Way of Northwest Alabama has faced funding-related challenges because of the coronavirus pandemic, like so many, and is not entering its final push for donations as this year’s annual fundraising campaign draws to a close.
The United Way continued assisting those need and even expanded programs and services during the pandemic. According to the nonprofit’s leadership, the organization is approximately $148,000 shy of its fundraising goal of $1,000,000. The annual campaign concludes May 31.
“I never expected my first full campaign season to occur during a global pandemic,” said Eva Harris, resource development director at United Way. “It was an intimidating time to attempt to raise funds, but I am so thankful to have had a great team of ambassadors working beside me.
“It has been heartwarming to see our community give this year,” Harris added, “despite the challenges they have faced themselves. We are within reach our goal, and I hope that this push will help us succeed.”
Money raised during United Way’s campaign helps fund the programs and services it offers, designed to improve the health, education and financial stability of people in Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin and Marion counties.
United Way of Northwest supports 19 nonprofit agency programs in the area as well as two internal programs, Success by 6 and 2-1-1 Information & Referral.
“We hope those who can financially contribute to United Way will join us in this final push,” said campaign chair Madeleine Frankford. “Our area has not been immune to the effects of the pandemic, but we have worked extremely hard to make sure help is there for those in need.
“As we move forward, we will be working toward determining what areas in our community need the most help,” Frankford added. “We are committed to filling the service gap areas to make the biggest impact in Northwest Alabama.”
