State Highway 187 reopens following landslide repair
The Alabama Department of Transportation is advising motorists that Alabama Highway 187 between Hodges and Belgreen in Franklin County has been reopened to traffic following emergency repair of a landslide in 2020.
Because of safety concerns, a short segment of the road, about three miles north of Hodges, had been closed for about six months, requiring motorists to use a detour.
F&W Construction was the contractor on the $929,510 ALDOT project to construct a soil nail retaining wall with shotcrete facing to stabilize the slope.
Final paving and some miscellaneous work is left to be performed by ALDOT. Motorists are encouraged to expect single-lane closures during paving, though impacts to traffic are anticipated to be minimal.
