Tiger girls get first area volleyball win

Starting a new program is measured by milestones, not instant success. The Red Bay Lady Tigers started their volleyball program this past year and experienced the growing pains that accompany a start up. Fast forward a year, and the Tigers are much more seasoned and improved – and celebrating one of those major milestones.

The Lady Tigers picked up their first area win in program history with a 3-1 win over the Sulligent Blue Devils in the best-of-five match.

“To say I am proud is an understatement,” said Red Bay Coach Amanda Ledbetter. “We look like a completely different team.”

Ledbetter added, however, that “I know we still have room for improvement.”

“I think getting an area win gave this team the shot of confidence they needed. It was amazing seeing their hard work pay off,” she said. “We can’t relish in the win for long because we have two tough teams to play this week. I don’t want this team to think our work is done.”

Madaline Ledbetter and Talli Hamilton led the Tigers. Ledbetter had 19 kills, while Hamilton had 26 assists.

Gracie Weatherford added six aces on serves. Kaylie Lindley added eight kills and five blocks for the Tigers.

In other volleyball action, Tharptown defeated Phil Campbell Thursday in a best-of-five match. The Wildcats won three straight sets.

Jaiden Gaston led Tharptown with seven kills. Taylor Cameron had six kills. Leslie Staggs added three kills.
