Teams look to rebound from week of losses
PCHS (4-3; 3-1) at East Lawrence (2-5; 2-2)
The Phil Campbell Bobcats will travel to East Lawrence this week for a game that will serve to determine play–off positioning. The game will also play a big role in deciding whether or not the Bobcats will get to host a first–round play–off game.
Phil Campbell is 1-6 all time against the Eagles and had to forfeit this game this past year because of COVID protocols.
The Bobcats lost to region leader Lauderdale County this past week 13-6. East Lawrence lost to Clements 47-34 – a team Phil Campbell beat 37-14.
RBHS (2-4; 2-2) at Mars Hill (5-2; 4-0)
The Red Bay Tigers’ play–off hopes might have been dashed this past week at Hatton, where the Tigers lost 16-14.
Red Bay faces the two best teams in Class 2A Region 8 this week and next: the Tigers will travel to Mars Hill this week and play Colbert County next week.
The Tigers are 3-2 all time against the Panthers and lost this game 35-8 in 2020. Mars Hill is not as formidable this year as it was last year but still very good. The Panthers won their past two region games against Colbert County 25-20 and Lexington 21-13. The Panthers beat Hatton 60-12.
RHS (6-1; 4-0) at East Limestone (5-3; 5-0)
Russellville is sitting atop Class 5A Region 8, and East Limestone might be the only team with a shot at knocking them off.
Russellville is 9-2 all-time against East Limestone. The Golden Tigers were off this past week and should be well rested for this important matchup.
The last team both of these teams played was Ardmore. Russellville beat Ardmore 51-0 the week before last, and East Limestone beat Ardmore 42-0 last week.
The Golden Tigers are averaging 47.5 points per game and giving up 2.5 points per game in region contests. East Limestone is averaging 35.4 points per game and giving up 9.4 points.
THS (3-4; 0-4) at Hatton (3-4; 1-3)
Tharptown is coming off a tough 47-0 loss to Sheffield this past week and will take on a Hatton team coming off of a big 16-14 win over Red Bay. The Wildcats have never beaten the Hornets, losing this past year 52-6.
Vina (0-7; 0-5) hosts Hackleburg (5-2; 4-1)
The Red Devils might have missed their best chance to get a win this past week when they fell to Cherokee 16-6.
The Red Devils are 9-56-3 all-time against the Panthers and lost 48-12 in 2020. Hackleburg beat Phillips this past week 34-17.
