Bobcat boys win A-Junior title

The Phil Campbell Bobcats rolled to two easy wins in a row to capture the A-Junior Boys Franklin County championship.  Phil Campbell followed up a 46-17 win over East Franklin in the semifinals by beating the Tharptown Wildcats 54-25 Saturday to claim the title.

Phil Campbell raced out to an overwhelming 18-1 lead in the first quarter against the cross-county Wildcats. Tharptown was able to cut into the lead slightly in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 9-6, but Phil Campbell held on to a commanding 24-10 halftime lead.

The Bobcats extended their lead to 36-17 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to the easy win and the title.

Noah Raper led the Bobcats with 15 points. He was followed by Jacob Barnwell and Hayden Wingo with 12 points and 11 points respectively. Cole Faust added seven points, Braxton Mayfield five points, Logan Wright two points and Alex Allison two points.

Dalton Maldanado led Tharptown with 15 points. Dario Chavez added nine points and Bryson Borden two points.

Semifinals: Phil Campbell 46, East Franklin 17

Barnwell scored 21 points to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats to their easy 46-17 win over the East Franklin Rebels in the A-Junior Boys division Thursday.

Phil Campbell took a commanding 11-1 lead in the first quarter and led 18-9 at halftime. The Bobcats extended their lead to 34-15 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to the win, advancing to the finals to play Tharptown.

Wright followed Barnwell with eight points. Mayfield added six points, Raper five points, Faust four points and Wingo two points.

Trace Duboise led East Franklin with six points.
