Lady Golden Tigers’ softball season ends at North Regional

The 2022 Russellville High School varsity softball season came to an end with the Lady Golden Tigers going 2-2 in the double-elimination AHSAA Class 5A North Regional at the Florence Sportsplex.

RHS finished the season with a 22-26-1 record after advancing to the regional tournament for the second-straight season under head coach Josh Graham. The Lady Golden Tigers had two seniors on this year’s squad and will look for big things to come in the future after gaining valuable game experience this season.

Russellville 7, John Carroll Catholic 3

The Lady Tigers got regional play started with a win over the Cavaliers May 11.

Jenna Whitfield and Summer Butler had three hits apiece to lead RHS. Whitfield had five RBIs and a double. Additional Russellville RBIs came from Tori Tiffin and Addison Holcomb. Tiffin had two hits, and she was joined in the hit column by Jaiden Calvert, Emma Campbell and Maddy Green.

Jacey Moore pitched the entire tournament for Russellville, and she went seven innings in the first game, allowing five hits. The right-hander struck out nine and walked none.

Hayden 3, Russellville 1

Game two of the day sent the Lady Golden Tigers into the loser’s bracket. Russellville battled right with Hayden, with both teams getting all of their runs in the game’s third inning.

Russellville and Hayden displayed tremendous defense throughout the contest, with both teams making great plays in the field. A long drive off the bat of Russellville’s Campbell for a double almost cleared the fence for what would have been a game-tying homer.

Moore drove in the Russellville run.

Russellville 1, Corner 0

The Lady Golden Tigers came back May 12 and stayed alive with a close win over the Yellow Jackets.

Moore was tremendous in the circle, going seven innings for the win. Moore threw 111 pitches and allowed one hit. She struck out 11 and walked one batter.

Tiffin and Campbell had two hits each, with Tiffin scoring the run and Campbell driving her in.

Ardmore 7, Russellville 3

The RHS season came to an end with a loss to Ardmore.

Russellville got hits from Butler, Tiffin, Holcomb, Green and Natalie Nichols. The hit by Green was a double, and Whitfield had the only Russellville RBI.

Moore pitched seven innings to run her total over two days to 27 innings.
