Summer is a time when hundreds of club women come together to attend national and international conventions. This year marks the first in-person convention since 2018 for some organizations. 

A lot of considerations are given in selecting the locations for these conventions. Respondents have indicated the location of an event factors into their decision whether to attend. About half of attendees extend their stay and turn it into a vacation.

New Orleans will be the destination for two large 2022 conventions: The General Federation of Women’s Clubs International, June 25-28, and the Delta Kappa Gamma International, July12-16. The Big Easy will keep the good times rolling with these organizations!

Both conventions have packed agendas with speakers, business sessions, workshops and award banquets. The business sessions include electing new international officers; voting on proposed amendments, by-laws, resolutions; and taking on other business matters.

In the midst of all this, club women will have time to visit and catch up with long-time friends, reunite with others from around the world, share ideas and inspirations, celebrate everyone’s accomplishments and receive awards.

The conventions will assist club women to expand their network of learning, sharing and inspiring through meeting new friends.

A variety of sightseeing tour opportunities are available before and/or after the convention.  Some include the Oak Alley Plantation; The National World War II Museum; Audubon Aquarium of the Americas; Hurricane Katrina Memorial; New Orleans City Park/Jackson Square; Mardi Gras World; and cruising on the Riverboat City of New Orleans.

Attendees’ checklists include registering for the convention; making hotel reservations; scheduling sightseeing tours; finalizing transportation arrangements; and more.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Alabama group will have the opportunity to travel on its DKG bus to New Orleans. Some members of the Franklin County DKG Alpha Upsilon Chapter plan to travel via SUV.

DKG Alabama State President Penny Christian stated, “The life I love is making memories with my DKG friends, and I can’t wait to get on the road again,” – a riff on the Willie Nelson classic. She said when International does the roll call of states, we’ll respond with “Sweet Home Alabama.”
