Friends start up memorial scholarship for fallen classmate

Russellville High School Class of 2020 graduate Alexis “Lexie” Margo Glass died in a traffic accident this past month, and friends are setting out to make sure Glass is not forgotten.

Longtime friends of Glass, Autumn Logan and Krista Sikes, are working to start a scholarship in her memory. The scholarship will be given to a senior female athlete at Russellville High School who has the same characteristics as Glass – passion, love, positivity, enthusiasm, caring and empathy.

Sikes and Logan describe Glass as energetic and caring. She was working at The Grind and as a CNA at The Cottage of the Shoals – while attending Northwest-Shoals Community College in pursuit of her dream of being a nurse practitioner – when the fatal car crash occurred. Her boyfriend Tyler Morgan was also in the vehicle and died from the crash.

With a GoFundMe account being circulated on Facebook, Glass’ friends have an initial goal of $500 to fund the first year of the scholarship, with the GoFundMe amount set at $2,000. Donations totaled $400 at press deadline. Sikes and Logan said any amount raised beyond $500 will roll forward to the next year’s scholarship.

“We’re doing this because we want to honor Lexie’s memory,” explained Logan. “If you knew her, then you know about her passion for sports and her love for others. She also enjoyed hunting and taking pictures. She loved helping people, so it feels right to help others in her memory.”

Logan and Sikes said they both had the privilege of playing sports with Lexie over the course of all four years of high school – Logan playing basketball with her and Sikes playing both basketball and volleyball with her.

“Lexie loved taking care of others,” Logan added.

For more information, contact Logan or Sikes on Facebook or visit the GoFundMe page. To donate, visit the GoFundMe page or send a check to Russellville City Schools at 1945 Waterloo Road, Russellville, AL  35653; make it out to RCS Education Foundation (Lexie Glass).
