Cultura club marks successful fall fundraiser
The Cultura Garden Club had a successful Fall Mum Fundraiser with 254 potted mums sold.
The first meeting of the year was held at the home of William and Debbie Nale, where members met and enjoyed checking out their new He Shed/She Shed. Debbie stated, “I know it’s supposed to be a “Man Cave,” but I am claiming ownership too because I plan to use this room for sewing, exercising, etcetera.”
Debbie cautioned everyone about inspecting their breaker boxes in and about their houses and to make sure the wire is grounded. This was the cause of the fire that destroyed the garage at their home.
She said the fire could have been much worse. They give God the glory that the fire was during the daytime, and no one was injured. They were blessed.
This meeting was informal, as well as a working one, with members distributing mums to the people who purchased them.
Refreshments were provided by the officers.
Each member was given the club’s 2022-2023 yearbooks. The yearbook includes the membership roster, constitution, by-laws, activities, objectives, programs and projects planned for this year. The theme for this year is “The Beauty of Southern Gardening.”
This year marks the 71st anniversary of Cultura Garden Club, which is a federated member of The Garden Club of Alabama Inc., The National Garden Clubs Inc., and the Deep South Region.
The fall committee has been decorating downtown so the city would be officially ready for the first day of fall Sept. 22. JoAnn Graham is the chairperson, with Patricia Cox, Debra Spillers and Brenda Oliver serving on the committee.
The streetscape decorations include hay stacks, scarecrows, fall leaves and mums. The street poles and pots will also feature fall plants and leaves with scarecrow accents.
President Debbie Nale thanked the members for their dedication to the garden club. This is a hard-working club that works together to make our city and community a beautiful place to live. We also appreciate the Russellville Street Department for their assistance in all the garden club’s endeavors. Thanks to the community for your continued support!
