Red Bay authorizes purchase of equipment for RBHS

In its regular meeting Dec. 7, the Red Bay City Council approved $4,300 for additions and upgrades in sound equipment in the Red Bay High School gym.

Council member Mike Kennedy explained the purchases would not be a “total replacement” but would include needs like hardware, speakers, wireless microphones and other items. Kennedy noted the space is used for a variety of purposes.

In other business, the council:

  • Tabled a request from Dr. Jacqueline Parsons in the amount of $95,152 to purchase new equipment for the elementary playground. Red Bay Mayor Charlene Fancher said other matters need to be addressed first, including drainage issues, before moving forward. “I’m very passionate about this project,” Fancher said, “but I think we have some other issues to deal with first.”
  • Approved modification to the Duty to Intervene and Report Policy for the Red Bay Police Department. Fancher explained the city is audited each year regarding its worker compensation policy, periodically receiving recommendations as to wording that needs to be added to the policy.
  • Approved termination of Ron Grissom as a police officer.
