Red Devil teams rack up wins

The Vina Red Devils had an exceptional week this past week, piling up wins. The varsity girls beat Lynn, Berry and Cherokee for the trifecta. The varsity boys beat Berry on Senior Night.

In the Vina girls’ 54-36 triumph over Lynn, Kaitlyn Athey and Sara Harper scored 16 points each. Mikala Mitchell added 13 points. Kylee Brooks scored four points, Jaylyn Shotts three points and Kaley Attaway two points.

In the 59-42 win over Berry, Athey scored 25 points. She was followed by Harper with 13 points. Brooks, Shotts and Braxton Quinn scored seven points each.

The Red Devil girls blew out the Cherokee Indians 68-33. Athey scored 33 points, making nine three-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds. Harper added 10 points and 10 assists, and Khylee Brooks had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Against the Berry boys, three senior Red Devils took over to lead Vina to a 72-59 win.

Nate Stidham scored 28 points, followed by Conner Davidson with 22 points and Hunter Griffith with 18 points.

Berry led 48-46 going into the fourth quarter, but Vina turned it on, outscoring the Tigers 24-12 in the final period of play.

“Our seniors played their hearts out,” said Vina Coach Randy Barnes. “The score at the end reflected it.”

Grayson Ridge added the other four points for the Red Devils.
