RBHS boys win area title

The Red Bay Tigers captured another area title with a hardfought win over the Sulligent Blue Devils, 56-47, to claim the Class 2A Area 20 championship.

Sulligent led Red Bay 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and had extended their lead to 27-22 at halftime. The Tigers started their climb back in the second half, outscoring the Blue Devils 17-8 in the third quarter to take a 39-35 lead.

Red Bay continued to pull away from Sulligent in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 17-12. The Tigers went 10 for 16 from the freethrow line in the fourth quarter, with three free throws each from Holden Inmon, Cody Carnes and Lawson Glover. The Tigers also got six points in the fourth quarter from Ethan McCoy.

Inmon and McCoy led Red Bay with 14 points each. B.P. Blair added seven points, Gage Edgmon six points, Ty Reynolds six points, Carnes five points and Glover four points.

In the semifinals, Red Bay easily beat Lamar County 82-52. The Tigers put the game on ice early, outscoring the Bulldogs 28-11 in the first quarter and leading 44-27 at halftime. Red Bay extended the lead to 69-46 by the end of the third quarter.

Red Bay was led by Glover with 14 points, followed by McCoy with 10 points. Ty Reynolds and Jeremiah Robinson scored eight points each, followed by Brayden Tabbs with seven points.

Carnes, Edgmon and Jaxson Vinson added six points each. Inmon and Kennedy Wilemon scored five points each. Blair finished with three points, and Jeremiah Thorne and Conner Humphries had two points each.

Red Bay hosted Hatton Tuesday night in the subregion. Results were not available by press time.
