Subregion games eliminate Belgreen, Phil Campbell girls

For the second straight year, there will be no girls basketball teams representing Franklin County at the Northwest Regionals at Wallace-Hanceville.

Both Belgreen and Phil Campbell won their respective areas in Class 1A and Class 3A Thursday night and hosted subregion games Monday night.

BELGREEN

Shoals Christian came from behind late to upset Belgreen 48-44.

Shoals Christian led early, 14-13, at the end of the first quarter and 27-26 at the half.

Belgreen stormed out of the halftime locker room to outscore the Flame 10-5 and take a 36-32 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs led by as much as six with just less than two minutes to play in the game, but a series of turnovers converted to points by Shoals Christian gave the Flame the win.

Dacota Green led Belgreen with 13 points. Lily Green, Bryn Scott and Makenna Fisher scored six points each. Isabella Fisher added five points, Carson Hovater four points, Noelle Willingham two points and Lilliana Willingham two points.

PHIL CAMPBELL

Phil Campbell lost to Clements 51-36.

The Bobcats trailed from the outset, falling behind 13-6 at the end of the first quarter. Clements extended that lead to 27-15 at halftime.

Phil Campbell cut into the Colts’ lead in the third quarter and got as close as nine points, but it wasn’t enough.

Madison Branch ended a stellar career with 18 points, scoring eight in the fourth quarter and going eight for 10 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Macy Hardy added 11 points, scoring five in the second and six in the fourth.

Hannah Welborn finished with three points, Mary Beth Fisher two points, Kaylie Motes one point and Sidda Rogers one point.
