Tennis season gets into full swing for Russellville High as girls, boys collect wins
The Russellville High School varsity tennis teams are busy with regular season matches, and both the girls’ and boys’ squads are having a lot of success on the court.
Head coach Charlotte Dollar’s Russellville girls faced the Brooks Lions March 6 and got a 9-0 team win. Singles wins came from No. 1 Peyton Parrish with scores of 6-0 and 6-1; No. 2 Sofia Tiffin, 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Addie Strickland, 6-3, 6-3; No. 4 Kinsley Palmer; No. 5 Kaitlin Speck, 4-6, 6-1 and 10-7; and No. 6 Lily Cate Pace, 6-0 and 6-0.
RHS was also dominant on the doubles’ courts. Golden Tigers’ doubles teams with victories were: No. 1 Parrish/Tiffin, 6-2, 6-2; No. 2 Strickland/Palmer, 6-3, 6-0; and No. 3 Speck/Pace, 6-3, 6-4.
Russellville’s boys, led by head coach Ben Phillips, took down Brooks by a 7-2 team total.
Singles winners for the Golden Tigers were Reece Carson, Josue Tomas, David Tomas, Bryan Ruiz and Bralynn Vincent. The doubles teams of Reece Carson/Josue Tomas and Malachi Duncan/Ayden Boyd were also victorious.
March 7 the Deshler Tigers visited Russellville. The Lady Golden Tigers fell to DHS in a close battle, with Russellville singles wins coming from Parrish, Tiffin and Palmer. A doubles win came from Parrish/Tiffin. On the boys’ side, Russellville got a 5-4 win with the help of singles winners Josue Tomas, David Tomas, Ruiz and Vincent. A doubles win came from Duncan/Boyd.
After the Golden Tigers kept their hot streak alive with a win of their own Russellville round-robin boys’ tournament March 11, both the boys and girls got 9-0 victories March 13 versus the Haleyville Lions and Rogers Pirates.
The varsity squads followed that up with two more 9-0 wins over both Central-Florence and Priceville March 14.
