Comeback sparks Phil Campbell sweep of Haleyville

The Phil Campbell Bobcats came back from a big deficit to beat the Haleyville Lions and go on to sweep the two-game series this past week, 16-8 and 9-1.

In game one of the series Tuesday, Haleyville’s bats were hot at the start, opening up an 8-3 lead after two innings. The Phil Campbell Bobcats scrapped their way back into the game, scoring one run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to cut the Lions’ lead to 8-6.

The Bobcats blew the game open with an eight-run fifth inning to take a 14-8 lead, going on to win 16-8.

Koltin Hester struggled early on but wasn’t helped by his team defense. Hester gave up six hits and three earned runs, but eight runs crossed the plate in an inning and two-thirds.

Hunter Baker came in and shut Haleyville down, giving up two hits and no runs the rest of the way.

The Bobcat bats warmed up, too, with the double-whammy of Bryant Anthony and Robbie Robinson. Anthony hit two home runs, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Robinson homered and doubled, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and scored twice.

Kyle Pace went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

In game two Thursday, the bats came in hot again, with Baker sending on beyond the outfield fence. The Bobcats also got doubles from Cam Habada and Cody Quinn. Quinn and Baker scored twice, along with Kyle Pace.

Cole Pace pitched a complete game six-hitter, giving up one run and striking out six.
