Lady Golden Tigers split softball home contests versus Haleyville, Elkmont

Russellville’s varsity softball team got a win over Haleyville but dropped a game to Elkmont as the regular season continues on the diamond.

The Lady Golden Tigers (9-12) hosted two games over the past week, and the most recent matchup was against the Lady Lions of Haleyville.

After falling behind 1-0, RHS pounced with nine runs in the bottom of the opening inning.

The Lady Tigers had 13 total hits, with two each coming from Addison Holcomb, Emma Campbell, Haylee Rikard and Jacey Moore. Also hitting safely were Summer Butler, Brooklyn Butler, Jaiden Calvert, Ticelee Gholston and Natalie Nichols.

Russellville got doubles from Campbell and Holcomb, along with RBIs off the bats of Summer Butler, Holcomb and Campbell.

Paislee James pitched all seven innings for RHS and allowed three earned runs. She struck out four.

Elkmont came to Russellville March 28, and the Lady Red Devils got the 5-1 win. EHS scored a run in the first inning and added three in the fifth and another in the seventh; the lone Russellville run was plated in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Red Devils got a first-inning run with the help of a Russellville throwing error. A fifth-inning home run scored three, and a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh brought home the final run of the contest for EHS.

The Lady Golden Tigers had three hits on the day, with Rikard picking up two of them. Calvert had two stolen bases, the other Russellville hit and the only RHS run.

Russellville was patient as a team at the plate and drew six walks. Summer Butler had three, while Brooklyn Butler, Holcomb and Gholston got the others.

Jacey Moore got the start in the pitching circle and went seven innings. The junior right-hander allowed three earned runs, gave up seven hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.
