Wedding Spotlight: Charity and Lee Devine

FRANKLIN LIVING JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2024

Charity is from Russellville, and Lee is from Kinston. The couple married Sept. 30, 2023.

HOW THEY MET: Lee and Charity met Dec. 4, 2021, in Birmingham. Leading up to their first date, they talked on the phone every night for hours, so they felt like they already knew one another. On their second occasion ever spending time with each other, Lee told Charity he knew they were going to be together forever! She laughed and told him he didn’t know – but now she can say he was definitely right.

FIRST DATE: Charity and Lee’s first date was so memorable. Lee and his friends had their medical school holiday party December 4, 2021, and he took a chance and asked Charity to be his date, having never met her in person. Not only did they meet each other for the first time, but Charity met all of his friends on the same night. Lee picked Charity up and they went to dinner together before going to the event at Ghost Train Brewing. They spent the night dancing and laughing! Lee insisted they take pictures together – and they are so glad they did because now they have them to look back at and see each other together from the beginning. It was the best first date they could have ever asked for!

THE PROPOSAL: This day was nothing short of a fairytale! Every detail was absolutely perfect. Lee started by planning a trip to Sanibel Island. He surprised Charity by having her family waiting at the airport when they landed. His parents also came down to be a part of their special day! The day Lee popped the question, they went on a dinner date at their favorite place to eat on the island. Lee gifted Charity a book of letters and photos he had secretly taken since their first date, recording all of their memories together. After dinner they were going to watch the sunset. Once they walked down to the beach, the most beautiful proposal possible was waiting. Lee got down on one knee and asked Charity to spend forever with him, and it was the easiest “Yes” ever – truly the most romantic engagement anyone could ask for.

THE WEDDING: Lee and Charity got married Sept. 30, 2023, at Willow Oak Lodge. It was a beautiful day full of love and happiness. They got married at sunset and had their reception under the stars and lights. Friends and family flew and drove from near and far to be a part of their big day. Their wedding was decorated with white florals, chinoiserie pottery and personalized details – from monogramed napkins with each guest’s name, to letters from their guests to read on their one-year anniversary. The reception turned into an amazing dance party with wigs, cowboy hats and glow sticks. The exit for the couple was extra sweet, as the guests threw rose petals Charity had saved from every flower Lee had given her since they started dating.

FAVORITE MOMENT: Lee’s favorite moment of the wedding was getting to see Charity walk down the aisle. Charity’s favorite moment was their first dance. They choreographed the dance themselves, and having it come to life and sharing it with their friends and family was perfect.

WHAT THEY LOVE: Lee loves that Charity is beautiful inside and out – that she is sweet, kind, loving, caring and funny. He also loves that they both share the same values and beliefs and the way Charity makes him feel happy and supported. Charity loves how kind and caring Lee is, as well as how he’s a hard worker and strives to be the best at everything, including being the best husband and friend. She said she hopes they live a long loving life together and that at the end, when they only have their memories, they can look at each other and say how amazing it was.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The couple would like to thank all of their family and friends who traveled from all over the country to be part of their special day. They will remember it as the best day of their lives. They would especially like to thank family and neighbors who worked so hard and spent months planning, decorating, building and setting up. Because of them, the couple’s fairytale wedding became a reality, and they cannot express how truly grateful they are.
