Walking the road to wellness

For more than 35 years, communities across the world have come together to honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change in the fight against cancer.

Through the affiliation of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Russellville Book Lovers Study Club has been an advocate in the fight against cancer for years. While our fundraising might look different, our passion to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer is unchanged.

The GFWC Book Lovers Study Club will hold its sixth annual cancer awareness and fundraiser walk March 16. This walk will be held in memory of Roger Bedford and Maudie Darby Bedford. The proceeds will benefit individuals on their journey to wellness.

The registration fee is $20 (which includes a T-shirt for the first 75 to register). This fee can be paid by check (made payable to Book Lovers Study Club) on the day of registration or mailed to Walk to Wellness, 60 Morgan Court, Russellville, AL 35653, or purchased directly from a Book Lovers Club member.

Registration sign up is 9:00 a.m. in the Touchdown Club Room of the Russellville High School Field House and the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Previous Walk to Wellness fundraisers have made it possible for the club to donate thousands to the Russellville Hospital Cancer Fund, Dr. Maynard, assist others with their travels to MD Anderson, pay for ladies that need mammograms, help cancer survivors and supply wigs or special eyelash cream to make them feel beautiful.

Through this fundraiser, it is our hope that we are helping the lives of people with cancer in some way, advocating for research to eliminate cancer and allowing people to live good, healthy lives.

The Health and Wellness committee are Michelle Sibley; Ginger Saylor; Nancy Foster; and Shelia Upchurch.
