Roy Medley
Roy Medley, 78, of Russellville, passed away April 15 at Helen Keller Hospital following a two-month battle with COVID.
Roy proudly served in the National Guard for six years. He worked for 35 years in maintenance in the Franklin County school system. He was honored to serve as a deacon at Crestview Baptist Church. Roy was a handy man who could fix just about anything. He loved Alabama football, being outside and eating at 43 Grill. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren, Sydney and Nathan, and was always there to support and cheer them on in their endeavors. Our family is saddened by our loss, but we have the peace knowing Roy is in no more pain, discomfort or hurt.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Parlie Edwards Medley; brother, Carl Medley; sister, Peggy Britnell; and his grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Rogers Medley; son, Jamie Medley (wife, Cassie); beloved grandchildren, Sydney Medley and Nathan Medley; sister, Patsy Green Barger; and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held April 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel, with a funeral service directly following. Bro. Eric McKinney and Bro. Roger Akers will officiate. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.
Thank you to those who have prayed since Feb. 19 for Roy and us! Thank you to Dr. Josh Vacik, Pam Britnell and every nurse from Helen Keller Hospital’s ICU, PCU and third and fourth floors. They have been the most compassionate, caring and helpful people, especially the PCU nurses on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
