Job fair set for tomorrow

A nearby job fair will include representation from several Franklin County businesses.

The job fair, targeting displaced mining and steel workers, is open to the public and will be hosted by the Alabama Career Center System at the Community Health Systems Activity Center in Jasper tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We know that hundreds of steel and coal industry employees have been laid off in the past few months in this area,” said Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Fitzgerald Washington. “These workers have valuable skills that can easily transfer to new careers in other fields, such as manufacturing or utilities. This job fair was primarily designed to help them get back on their feet.”

More than 45 employers are scheduled to attend, including Gentiva Health Service, Mar-Jac Poultry, Alabama Power Company and G&G Steel.

Applicants should come to the job fair with their résumés, be prepared to interview and be dressed professionally.
