Back To Basics center gets RC&D grant

The Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation and Development Council gave $2,500 to the Back to Basics Life Skill Center located in Russellville. This center tutors/mentors students having problems in school with academic skills or other skills needed to progress in life, in addition to seniors who are in need of technical skills, such as using a computer.

The Rev. Charles Dale said the center was in need of technology and supplies. “Some of our present computers are old and need to be upgraded with new software; we also need to upgrade office equipment and furniture,” said Dale. The money from the RC&D was used to purchase computers, software, monitors, chairs and a microwave for the Back to Basics Life Skill Center. A number of students, seniors and other community members will benefit from this project.

Roger Hayes, chairman of the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council, said the council knows some students and community members can greatly benefit from the individual instruction at the center, and the council is supportive of this cause. He also expressed his appreciation to Sen. Larry Stutts, as well as Reps. Johnny Mack Morrow and Marcel Black, who represent Franklin County and provide support for the RC&D in the state legislature.
