Hi folks,

The last few days certainly have been a reminder that spring is in the air.

I have noticed that every place that sells plants – whether it’s tomato plants or all types of flowers – is certainly very busy. I remember in previous years, the best time to buy a home freezer was during the garden season, but that has changed a lot. So many folks had rather buy from a farmer’s market than try growing it themselves. Myself and most of the readers of Homefolks U.S.A. had rather buy than plant.

I do love flowers, and every year my yard and porch will be filled with all types of flowers. This is something that I never grow tired of doing.

Thank the good Lord that spring weather is here for the year 2018.

The festival fever is in the air, and most musicians have their guitars, banjos and fiddles tuned up to bring enjoyment to those of us who like bluegrass music. If he was still living, I am sure that the “left hand” fiddle player Ed Rickard would add a lot to any festival, as would Albert Clark and so many more who we could name.

Ms. Chris Ozbirn has put together many events to celebrate the Bicentennial in our part of the county. Ms. Ozbirn has a lot of the early crafts that will be on display this year at Pioneer Day Saturday. I know several folks who still make lye soap and handmade brooms and who know all about drying fruits and canning fruits and vegetables. I feel sure the many events that will be on display will bring back happy memories for those who remember such things from that early portion of their lives  – and many memories about the way the early frontier people made these things a part of their lives.

We wonder how many of the early Americans would feel knowing that people today are still finding a lot of interest in the way they lived. I am sure that many of those folks were happier and more content and had a deeper sense about the Almighty God than many us have today.
