DA: Pace jury trial postponed

The case of Kimberly Wyatt Pace, of Hamilton, has concerned some local citizens since the car crash in 2016 that led to her indictment and arrest last year. The case was set to go to trial June 25, but according to Franklin County district attorney Joey Rushing, the jury trial has been postponed.

Rushing said a civil law suit has been filed that is holding up the case.

“There are a lot of bills that haven’t been paid – helicopter bills, medical bills, things like that – so, that’s sort of caused the case to be continued,” he said.

The case stemmed from a car crash that occurred May 21, 2016. According to the official report, Pace was driving on Highway 24 in Franklin County and crashed into several parked vehicles near the Lawrence County line. This resulted in several injuries, including those received by her two daughters, who were in the vehicle at the time.

According to officials, another car crash had occurred moments prior to Pace’s, which caused the stand-still traffic Pace crashed into.

A grand jury indicted Pace on one count of reckless endangerment and one count of reckless driving.

“She wasn’t under the influence; she wasn’t on drugs; but the fact is that the grand jury voted that it was reckless behavior on her part for causing the wreck,” Rushing said.

As of right now, the case is pending until decisions are made regarding the civil suit.
