PC girls get two wins

Varsity girls

Phil Campbell 51, Belgreen 38

The Phil Campbell Bobcats used a strong defensive effort to put away the Belgreen Bulldogs 51-38 last week.

The Lady Bulldgos sank three three-pointers in the first quarter to give themselves an 11-8 first quarter lead.  The Bobcats, however, stepped up their defensive pressure, outscoring Belgreen 30-10 through the second and third quarter to take a 38-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

Abby Davis led the Bobcats with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kallie Allen followed with 13 points and four steals. Caitlynn Mills added eight points, Olivia Taylor six points, Kaci Harris four points, Faith Cook two points and Katie Thomas one point.

Emma Dempsey led Belgreen with 13 points. Gabbie Moore added six points, Ansley Tate four points, Autumn Bragwell three points, Emma Willingham three points, Gracie Dempsey three points and Katie Dempsey one point.

In another recent face-off, Phil Campbell had no problems defeating East Lawrence 60-27.

The Bobcats led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter and held the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter to take a 36-4 halftime lead.

Davis and Mills scored 10 points each. Allen added nine points, Taylor eight points, Harris seven points, Thomas four points, Madison Branch four points, Cook four points, Kenner Scott two points and Jade Roberson two points.

Varsity boys

The Phil Campbell boys did not fare as well as the girls versus the neighboring Eagles. Luke Garrison sank seven three-pointers and scored 31 points in an 83-73 area loss to East Lawrence.

Phil Campbell and East Lawrence were tied 18-18 at the end of the first quarter, and the Bobcats pulled out to a 37-32 lead at halftime, but the Eagles came out hot in the second half, scoring 51 points and holding Phil Campbell to 36 points.

Following Garrison was Brett Saint with 18 points and Nate Owens with 11 points. Ridge Raper added six points, Isaac Riddle four points, Easton Cummings two points and Ben Williams one point.
