Vina girls pick up two wins

The Vina Red Devils held the Waterloo Cougars to seven points in the second and third quarters to solidify a 45-29 win last week.

Vina led Waterloo by two points, 15-13, at the end of the first quarter, but the Red Devils outscored the Cougars 17-5 in the second quarter and 5-2 in the third quarter to take a 37-20 lead in the fourth period.

Freshman Rayleigh Guin led Vina with 13 points and 13 assists. Sara Scott followed with nine points and 12 rebounds, and Kaitlynn King added nine points as well. Hailey Cantrell (6), Emma Humphres (4), Annabelle Humphres (2) and Abbie Petree (2) also scored for Vina.

Vina 56, Hackleburg 33

The Vina Red Devils had no problems putting away area opponent Hackleburg last week 56-33. Vina jumped out to a 17-7 first-quarter lead and extended that lead to 30-12 at halftime.

Vina led Hackleburg 41-24 at the end of the third quarter.

The win improved Vina’s overall record to 12-4 and 3-2 in the area.

Guin and Sarah Johnson led Vina with 18 points and 17 points respectively. Scott added 10 points and 17 rebounds. Emma Humphres had eight points and 10 rebounds. Petree scored two points, and Hailey Cantrell added one point.
