Coaching carousel brings change to Franklin County

There has been a lot of movement in Franklin County coaching circles this summer.

Former Itawamba Community College coach Marty Cooper was hired to take over the Belgreen boys basketball program vacated by the resignation of Clint Isbell.

Tharptown softball coach Susie Tverberg was hired to coach volleyball and softball at Belgreen. She replaces Teresa Whitten and John Smith, both of whom resigned. Smith was hired to take over the softball program at Florence High School.

Tverberg’s transfer leaves Tharptown High School without a softball coach. Applications are currently being accepted.

Kelby Daniel will take over the Phil Campbell softball program following the resignation of Jordan Benford. Daniel resigned as the principal of Tharptown Elementary School and will be the assistant principal at Phil Campbell.

Richard Maggerise resigned as the baseball coach at Red Bay High School. He was hired as an assistant baseball and football coach at Russellville High School.

Maggerise’s resignation leaves Red Bay without a baseball coach. Applications are currently being accepted.

Former Hewitt-Trussville Middle School coach Shane Clay was hired earlier this summer to take over the Phil Campbell boys basketball program after the resignation of Brett Thomas.

Ben Guin was hired in the spring to take over the Vina football program following the resignation of Jason Harris.

As the first day of school creeps closer and applications are being accepted for several positions, there are certain to be more coaching announcements to come.
