Phil Campbell boys hit century mark at Brilliant, 103-61

The Phil Campbell varsity boys hit the century mark for the second time this season with a 103-61 win over Brilliant this past week.

The Bobcats had five players in double figures, with Luke Garrison leading the way with 21 points. Garrison was followed by Mason Swinney with 15 points, Brett Saint with 14 points, Bryant Hyde with 12 points and Cam Habada with 11 points.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a big 23-9 first-quarter lead and extended the lead to 52-29 at halftime. The Bobcats exploded in the third quarter to put the game away, outscoring the Tigers 35-11 to take an 87-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Quentin Hyde with seven points, Blain Goodson with five points, Canaan Clay with four points and Jonah Fisher with two points.

Later in the week, the Bobcats fell to Haleyville 76-59.

The first quarter was a shootout, with the teams making a combined nine three-pointers.   

The Lions’ fifth three in the first period was a three-quarters court heave to give Haleyville a 25-22 lead.

Swinney and Habada led the strong first quarter for the Bobcats, with Swinney scoring nine points and Habada scoring six points on two three-pointers.

Haleyville turned on the defensive pressure in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 23-11 and taking a 48-33 halftime lead. Haleyville extended the lead to 60-41 in the third quarter and led by as many as 28 points at one time.

Swinney led Phil Campbell with 20 points, and Habada followed with 11 points. Blain Goodson added nine points, Bryant Hyde six points, Kyle Pace four points, Jonah Fisher three points, Luke Garrison three points and Brett Saint two points.

GIRLS

Phil Campbell 68, Haleyville 46

The Phil Campbell girls easily beat the Haleyville Lions last week 68-46.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and extended their lead to 35-21 at halftime. Phil Campbell pulled away in the third quarter, taking a 49-30 lead.

Olivia Taylor and Caitlynn Mills led Phil Campbell with 18 points and 17 points respectively. Mills hit five three-pointers.

Trinity Thomas added 14 points for the Bobcats, and Katie Thomas added 12 points.

Jade Roberson scored four points, Makayla Baker two points and Madison Branch one point.
