Northwood Country Club played host to the fourth annual Jeff Bower golf tournament Monday.
Damp conditions and rainy weather did not deter the USM faithful.
USM Athletic Director Richard Giannini, former USM star Reggie Collier, Jim Hicks, current center for the Eagle football team, and a multitude of Southern Mississippi supporters got the opportunity to exchange a day in the office for a day on the links.
USM alum of 1977 Dick Simmons and president of East Central Mississippi Eagleclub was the organizer of the event that featured 21 teams.
Collier said he was enjoying the day.
This season has been one of the most remarkable in USM baseball history. The Eagles posted a record of 41-14, and a new C-USA record in wins, finishing 23-7, on their way to the C-USA regular season baseball title.
The University of Southern Mississippi has placed a $75,000 bid to the NCAA to host a NCAA Baseball regional in the upcoming weeks. Giannini said USM's chances look good.
Giannini also said the $40 million expansion project is progressing.
Giannini said that he is not worried about the possibility of C-USA folding due to changes in the Big East and ACC.
Giannini said the USM athletic program is growing.
