A group of concerned residents who live along Gallagher Creek will have to look elsewhere for repairs.
Meridian city councilmen told the group Tuesday that they didn't have the money, manpower or legal authority to repair the drainage canal's clutter and erosion problems.
Councilmen instead told the group they should seek help from the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors.
Some of Tuesday's discussion became heated while the residents voiced outrage about the creek.
The residents who live along one of the city's main drainage canals began complaining about 11⁄2 months ago that the creek eroded parts of their property, became cluttered with debris, carried raw sewage and turned into a snake- and rat-infested hazard.
The complaints came after two separate rounds of flash flooding struck the area last month.
Tom Harley, who helped organize the group of concerned residents, said today that they would regroup and decide what to do next.
