The weather may have been cold during Saturday night's Mardi Gras block party, but the food and music were sizzling.
Also taking to the stage for the evening of masks, balloons, food and fun were Rose Ledet and the Whodaddys, who provided additional live entertainment while several local radio stations offered music from near 22nd Avenue.
Growing up in Biloxi, Kelly Grissett who now lives in Meridian with three children of her own said she wouldn't have missed Saturday's downtown event for the world.
Others believed the food was the most important factor in the celebration.
The Mardi Gras block party held at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian attracted hundreds of people before the evening ending about midnight.
The celebration was sponsored by the Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau and Main Street Meridian and supported by area merchants and entertainers.
