New champions will be crowned in the 2003 edition of the Bill Davis Memorial Fourth of July Tournament at Northwood Country Club.
Robert Sanford and Tony Polizzi combined to eliminate defending champs Doyle Bryan and Judge Little 4 and 3 in Saturday afternoon's quarterfinal match.
Sanford and Polizzi will take on Joey Mabry and Colton Tisdale in one semifinal match today. The other semifinal pairs the team of Dan Angero and Jimmy Carle with Johnny Grace and Will Grace.
Semifinals are slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the finals set for 1 p.m.
Sanford and Polizzi used five birdies to oust the defending champs.
Mabry and Tisdale, co-champs in the 2001 tournament, advanced to the semifinal round with a win over Dan Singley and Chase Williams.
Angero and Carle continued their stout play in this year's event with a 2 and 1 quarterfinal victory over J.T. Williamson and Austin Bowen.
Carle won the 2003 Ed Lewis Memorial Day Tournament at Northwood with John Dement as his partner. Carle and Angero have formed an equally impressive duo for the first three days of the Bill Davis tournament.
During Saturday's play, Carle and Angero had birdies on Nos. 9, 11, 13, and 14 to pull away from Williamson and Bowen. They had eight birdies in Thursday's qualifying round of 63.
Each of the four semifinalists will have to win twice today to become champion.
Rounding out the final four is the team of Johnny Grace and Will Grace. They eliminated Keith Davis and Scott Davis 2 and 1 Saturday.
